Three times a year the parish pre-cana team of Deacon Steve and Carolann, Larry and Angie Sifuentes and Deacon Pat Aviles and Connie from St. James Parish, host couples interested in preparing to receive the Sacrament of Matrimony. From May 15 to 17, 2015, nine couples joined together at the Newman Center Retreat House on Woodruff road to pray and learn together.
The couples varied in age and in marital status. Some have been married outside the church and others were not. Their ages varied as much as their marital status. However they each held in common one view; to marry in the church and to invite Jesus Christ into their married life.
Using the USCCB approved program, Together in God’s Love, the couples studied the Sacrament of Matrimony, the Rite of Marriage, the Gifts of the Holy Spirit, Human Sexuality, Natural Family Planning and Stewardship and Communication.
In a emotional filled activity, each couple pledged to support one another’s God given gifts in their marriage.
The next weekend retreat will be in October 2015. For information contact Deacon Steve at 5208360601 or Deacon Pat at St. James parish.
